I sure do! (not like I get many in the first place haha)
OH WAIT. That’s excluding spam and this one question that asked me how long the nematode in my left boob was o.O I couldn’t think of anything witty to say to that so I left it lol Oh, yes! Sorry, that’s just the junk I have on queue. Never fear, your ask is safe with me :P
Hi I was the anon asking about what it takes to be a vet! Thank you so much for your advice! I've wanted to be a veterinary surgeon ever since I was three so I've had this goal for all of my life. I currently work at a cat shelter and I am working to find a vet who will allow a 15 year old volunteer at their practice (which is no easy feat >.<) so I'm trying to get a lot of experience. I'm in a program at my high school called the animal and botanical sciences. Do you think these will help me?
Oh, hey there :D No worries, man. I’m always more than happy to help!
That’s great to hear! I really do hope it all works out for you <3 Does your school have some sort of work experience program? I don’t know if it’s running anymore (oh man, I feel so old) but before this major exam called the HSC, students were encouraged to volunteer at a local workplace, with the school’s support, in order to determine whether or not it was in their best interest to continue working towards a career in that particular field. You could only do it for 1 week, but it was a great way to get your foot in the door. Crap. I’m rambling. Ok. Working at a cat shelter should definitely help your chances. Maybe try getting a letter of recommendation from a teacher who knows you well, or maybe even someone at the cat shelter? (if you haven’t done so already) Just to show them how super serious you are. Also, it may not be up to the vets to decide whether you can volunteer there. The first 2 clinics I asked denied my application due to policies that prevented persons below a particular age from working at the clinic- it had something to do with insurance, if I remember correctly. Definitely. If it makes you more knowledgeable/experienced in the area, then such programs will surely help you out.
BETHESDA, MD— Alley Cat Allies, the only national advocacy organization dedicated to the protection and humane treatment of cats, today condemned Animal Control of Worcester County, Md. after news reports that the agency had trapped and killed pet cats without keeping the cats for the required 10-day holding period or determining whether the cats had owners. West Ocean City residents reported at least five pet cats that had been trapped and killed by animal control after a “relative newcomer” to the neighborhood called the agency. “This is outrageous and unacceptable,” said Becky Robinson, president and co-founder of Alley Cat Allies. “According to neighbors, these cats had coexisted in this neighborhood for years, including one who was 16 years old, toothless, and declawed—but animal control killed them anyway. Citizens lost their pets with no opportunity to reclaim them and no apology from animal control.
